Dot Day

For this project, we read the book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. The story was about inspiring a student to create anything, even just a simple dot and turn in into a masterpiece. Everything that you create is unique and everyone can do anything.

When making our own dots, the project was a lot of fun. I think that children would really get excited drawing with the white crayons first and then watching their creations come to life when adding color. It was also fun to play with the oil pastels and crayons versus the markers and watercolor crayons that bled more.

An extension activity that you could use this for is in science. With older children, you could have them make cells out of their dots, drawing in membranes, nuclei, and other cells parts.
